Habitat: Forests
Size: Body of 40-50 cm.
Diet: Caterpillars, larvae, seeds, roots.
Biology: Scratcher and digger bird, it spends several hours probing with the robust beak the soil in search of food.
It similar to a rooster, forms stable pairs (monogamous), and at winter gets together in big groups
Reaches sexual maturity in the second year, when the female finally lays 6-12 eggs that incubates for 26-28 days.
During incubation and weaning of the pups, the female is abandoned by the male.
